any american girl doll collectors out there?

i am the proud owner of five american girl collectible dolls, and i understand that since the company switched over from pleasant company to mattel, the original dolls from pleasant company are becoming much more rare. three of the dolls are from pleasant company, all that i purchased around 1998, but is there anyway that i can figure out exactly what year the dolls were manufactured? is there a particular artist mark or something? or a significant difference in a doll from one year to the next? let me know if you can help me out!

I am too the proud owner of five dolls.

Know really the only dolls that are rare are the ones made by a company named Gotz. They where that 1st to make that dolls, like Samantha,Molly and Kirsten.

If you look at the back of the dolls neck you well find peleasant company on that back. if this make them rare know in days, I say no. I find the only ones that rare are made by Gotz. But I have heared anything about Mattel taking them over.

    Hope this help somewhat

Early Pleasant Company dolls have white cloth bodies rather than tan. I suggest you send your doll off to a specialist and they may be able to tell you what year your dolls were made. Wait 4 years or so and your dolls will become valuable. Some people believe Gotz is the original company but it was only the manufacturer, the dolls were always marked as Pleasant Company. If your doll was made by Gotz it is even more rare but that is hard to define.
